Under Prime Ministerial Decision No.2016/QD-TTg, signed by Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc on October 21, a master plan for  Da Nang city through 2050, with a long-term vision to 2075, has been approved, according to a report by  Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

Under the 2075 vision, Da Nang is envisioned as an ecological, modern, smart, and globally connected coastal metropolis ranked among Asia’s foremost culturally distinct cities, progressively satisfying all statutory criteria for a special-class urban center.

According to the approved blueprint, the planning scope covers Da Nang's entire administrative jurisdiction—including the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Special Administrative Zone—as well as adjacent maritime waters under Vietnam's management as stipulated by law.

Bordering Hue City to the north, Quang Ngai Province to the south, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the west, and the East Sea to the east, Da Nang encompasses a natural land area of roughly 11,870.34 square kilometers alongside its legally demarcated maritime jurisdiction.

By 2050, the master plan aims to develop Da Nang into an ecological, modern, smart, safe, highly livable, and culturally distinct coastal city boasting global stature and appeal. It is designated as a major national growth pole and a prime domestic and regional hub for startups, innovation, logistics, the marine economy, commerce, finance, free trade, science, technology, digital transformation, the digital economy, data processing, heritage tourism, culture, sports, education, and advanced healthcare. The metropolis will prioritize green growth, climate resilience, and the steadfast preservation of national defense, security, and maritime sovereignty.

In terms of urban character, Da Nang is classified as a centrally governed municipality and a primary socio-economic hub for both Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

The city serves as a key tourism growth driver; a focal point for startups, innovation, trade, finance, logistics, high-tech manufacturing, digital technologies, and supporting industries; and a center for culture, sports, advanced education, quality healthcare, and science.

Geostrategically positioned within the national urban hierarchy, Da Nang represents a critical transportation and telecommunications gateway that seamlessly integrates national multi-modal transport networks.
